Spring 2009 – ARCH 181 – Instructor: John Cooney
The very first day of studio we were told to interview a fellow classmate and make a drawing from this. Our next assignment was to use this drawing to make a meaningful collage of different elements. This collage was to derive from the initial drawing, but also show the artist. I interviewed Marcus and my drawing focused mostly on snow and snowboarding because this was something we both liked.
While I was thinking about what to draw, snow covered Norway that I left just a few weeks before, kept coming to my mind. Seeing this picture I could only think of how pure this looked. Going from purity I found a baby was a good way of showing this. The baby is purity that is about to be polluted as the veils are falling off and he is about to be born. Still in this last seconds of purity the baby holds on to nature, while his peers are already building a city on his back.
