For this studio we had to design a clubhouse for rowing with emphasis on the poetic. We started off working in groups where we had to find out the relationship between each of our rowing clubs and redesign the rest of the site.
We decided to make one dock for all the clubs instead of individual ones to create an overall sense of community. At the same time every club has it own community space for some privacy between the clubs. It was up to the student what kind of rowing club to design and so we put the clubs for the least experienced rowers closest to land and the most experienced towards the end of the dock.
I decided to make the rowing club for my own university team. My goal was to create a place rowers could arrive, knowing that now rowing is everything, a place to concentrate and train. Every design decision was therefore derived from rowing, from the columns to the sizes of the spaces.
